Henley tallies first career goal in draw with (RV) Hampden-Sydney

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Reed Henley tallied his first career goal, as the Tigers drew RV Hampden-Sydney on Sunday morning in men's soccer action at Hellmuth-Gibson Field 

For the second time this year, Sewanee played evenly with a team either ranked or receiving votes from the United Soccer Coaches' poll.

The Tigers controlled offensive action in the first half, after Henley scored in the 22nd minute. Isaac Rasheed headed a ball down from the top-right of the box. Grayson White came in toward the top and tapped it to the left. Henley struck it low-left from just inside the 18-yard-line for the opener, giving Sewanee the early lead. 

Sewanee maintained control for nearly 70 minutes, but Hampden-Sydney equalized with about a minute and a half remaining in the match off a corner. 

Stokes McConnell tallied four shots with one on target for Sewanee and White tallied the assist. Reid Gunzehnauser, in goal for the Tigers, recorded two saves. 

While Sewanee won the battle on shots 11-8, neither team registered many opportunities on target. The Sewanee Tigers had two, while the Hampden-Sydney Tigers took three.

Sewanee's only other shot on goal was taken by Stokes McConnell in the 65th. McConnell dribbled the ball in the left side of the box for several steps and then took the shot from the top-left side of the six-yard box, but Hampden-Sydney's keeper ricocheted the ball away. Sewanee was not credited with any shots after the 70th.

Hampden-Sydney's equalizer in the 89th was scored by Nate White off a corner.

Sewanee returns home Saturday, September 12 to host Roanoke College at 12 p.m. CT.
