Carter earns High Point honors as Tigers win day one at Maryville IHSA Show

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Lily Carter was named High Point Rider as Sewanee's IHSA Equestrian Team opened the 2026-27 season with a team victory on day one of the Maryville IHSA Show on Saturday, earning new head coach Taylor Herzog her first win as a head coach.

The Tigers finished atop the team standings with 29 points, followed by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with 26 points and Middle Tennessee State University with 25 points. Murray State finished fourth with 24 points, Maryville fifth with 18 points, Carson-Newman sixth with 10 points, and Tennessee Tech seventh with one point.

Carter earned High Point honors after winning Limit Flat A and finishing second in Intermediate Fences.

The Tigers then went one-two in Open Flat, with Madeline Luddy taking first on Knight and Michael Miller finishing second on Sargon. In Open Fences, Miller finished second on Sargon, while Luddy was fifth on Cassie.

Carter finished second in Intermediate Fences on Sargon, while Catherine Eberly placed sixth on Rose. Eberly also finished third in Intermediate Flat on Cassie.

In Limit Fences, Lainey Risley won the division on Big Rig, while Kelley Rose Abell finished sixth on Cudos. Carter won Limit Flat A on Vegas, with Abell finishing third on Finn. Bailey Pezzella won Limit Flat B on Knight.

The Tigers recorded fourth- and fifth-place finishes in the Novice division, with Hannah Fitzgerald placing fourth on Treasure and Ariel Hornek finishing fifth on Teller. In Novice B, Karma Kilfoyle finished second on Plaino.

In Pre-Novice A, Caroline Holland earned the win on Rapper, while Immam Muhaddisen finished fifth on Nora in the Introductory division.

Sewanee will return to the arena for day two of the Maryville IHSA Show on Sunday morning.
