SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sally Whitehead scored three goals, while Marlin Price and Sally Herrington added two each, but Sewanee fell to Rhodes, 16-7, in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

Whitehead also recorded three ground balls and a caused turnover. Price finished with three points on two goals and an assist to go with four caused turnovers, three draw controls, and two ground balls. Ella Townsend and Kennedy Harcourt led the defensive effort, with Townsend collecting four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Harcourt added three caused turnovers and a ground ball. Ellen Lewis controlled five draws, Sofia Bean added two, and Haley Price had one. In goal, Lilly Jordan matched her career high with nine saves.

Both teams opened the game with free-position opportunities but were unable to convert. Rhodes broke through at the 8:44 mark of the first quarter before Sewanee answered quickly, as Elizabeth Muller found Whitehead to tie the game at 1-1. The Lynx added a another goal to take a 2-1 lead after one.

Rhodes seized control in the second quarter, opening with a 4-0 run, including two goals in the first 1:21. The Lynx extended the lead to 6-1 before Marlin Price scored late in the half to make it 6-2 at the break.

Rhodes carried momentum into the third, scoring early and adding a man-down goal to push the advantage to 8-2. After Alexa Berg connected with Price midway through the quarter, Rhodes responded with two quick goals. Whitehead added her second goal of the game following a save from Jordan, but Rhodes capitalized on a rebound opportunity to extend the lead to 11-4 heading into the fourth.

The final period was delayed by weather for nearly two and a half hours. When play resumed, Lewis connected with Herrington for a man-up goal. Rhodes answered with a rebound finish following a missed free-position attempt. Whitehead completed her hat trick after collecting a loose ball on a failed clear, but the Lynx continued to respond, adding multiple goals down the stretch to secure the win.

Sewanee finished with 16 shots on goal compared to 21 for Rhodes and went 0-for-6 on free-position attempts.

The Tigers will enter the SAA Championships as the No. 2 seed next weekend in Memphis, Tenn., hosted by Rhodes.
