SEWANEE, Tenn. – Freshman
Aidan Tudor and sophomore
Turner Chiles each shot rounds of four-under par and Sewanee men's golf holds a six-shot advantage after the opening round of the SAA Championships on Friday at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn.
The Tigers registered a team score of 11-under par 277, six strokes head of Oglethorpe University and 12 in front of Centre College.
All of the Sewanee players started their rounds at No. 10.
Chiles started his day with birdies on Nos. 10 and 12 and added another on the par-5 17
th hole, but he also collected bogeys on 15 and 18. The Houston, Texas, native tallied three consecutive birdies to begin the front nine and recorded six straight pars to finish at four-under 68, tied for second.
Freshman
Aidan Tudor made par on six of the first eight holes with birdies on holes 14 and 16 but also a bogey on 18. The New Market, Md., native was up-and-down on the front nine with birdies on holes two and four, an eagle from the fairway at No. 5 and bogeys on holes three and six. He birdied the final hole of the day for a four-under 68. Tudor and Chiles trail Oglethorpe's Jackson Hiller by two strokes.
Senior
Elias Becker shot even on the back nine with five pars, bogeys on holes 10 and 14 and birdies at 11 and 17. The Mexico City, Mexico, native found more consistency on the front side with seven pars and two birdies, on holes two and four, posting a two-under 70, tied for fifth.
Sophomore
Niel Phillips registered four pars and birdies at Nos. 12-13 in the first six holes but then bogeyed 16 and 18 to make the turn. The New Orleans, La., native posted eight pars with a birdie at No. 4 on the front, shooting one-under 71, tied for seventh.
Senior
Will Brookby started slowly with a bogey at No. 10 and three more on holes 15-17. The Houston, Texas, native got hot on the front nine with four birdies in a six-hole stretch, carding an ever-par 72, tied for 10th.
Senior
Colin Edwards played the back nine in one-over with eight pars and one bogey. The Brookhaven, Ga., native recorded one more bogey along with six pars and a birdie at No. 4 on the front. He added another birdie at No. 9, finishing with an even-par 72.
