SEWANEE, Tenn. – Trinity University scored five runs in the fifth inning in the opener and plated four runs in the second and third innings in the second contest, claiming 9-1 and 10-1 victory over Sewanee in softball action Saturday in San Antonio, Texas. The two teams conclude the series Sunday with a single game at Noon CT.
GAME ONE
The Tigers (12-24, 1-13 SAA) managed only two hits but trailed 2-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth before Trinity scored twice in the bottom of the inning and five times in the fifth in a 9-1 victory.
Abbie Buckner and
Madilyn Parker each singled for Sewanee. Buckner singled with one out in the fourth inning, moved to second on a groundout by
Maggie Barker and stole third. After a walk to
Ansley Giffin, Parker's grounded to third was booted by Trinity's Mariana Garcia, allowing Buckner to score, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Trinity (22-8-1, 8-3) answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs on a two-out RBI single from Hayden DelToro and after a hit by pitch, another run-scoring single by Garcia.
Hannah Boudreaux and Angela Baltzell started the fifth inning with back-to-back doubles and Carsyn Lee singled before a two-run single from Samantha Tagawa. Trinity plated another run on a throwing error and the final run of the game scored on a wild pitch.
Reagan Huskey (7-11) allowed seven runs on eight hits in four-plus innings with one strikeout. Josephine Koelewyn (14-4) picked up the win for Trinity, giving up one unearned run on two hits with five strikeouts in five innings.
GAME TWO
Sewanee took a brief lead with a run in the top of the first but Trinity answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and four runs in the second and third frames. Buckner,
Grace Black and Giffin all collected hits for the Tigers and Giffin drove in the team's lone run.
Buckner was hit to leadoff the game and Black walked and both runners moved up on a passed ball. With two outs Giffin reached on an infield single, plating the run for Sewanee.
Trinity plated two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning after Boudreaux singled to start the frame and Lee reached on an error. With two outs Koelewyn scored both runners with a double to rightcenter.
Garcia was hit to leadoff the second inning and Ella Whitacre reached on an error before an RBI double from Boudreaux. Baltzell walked and Lees single to leftcenter plated two runs and Koelewyn plated the final run of the inning with a groundout to short.
Whitacre and Boudreaux both singled to start the third inning and Baltzell's grounder did not result in an out, loading the bases. Lee's single to right drove in two runs and another run came across on a throwing error before Samantha Tagawa plated the final run with a groundout.
Giffin (1-1) suffered the loss in the circle, giving up six runs, two earned, in 1.1 innings. Megan Kriechbaum (7-4) picked up the win, allowing one run on two hits in four innings. She walked four and struck out seven.
