Tigers drop final home game to Millsaps

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Millsaps jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Sewanee 11-2 in Southern Athletic Association softball action Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.

The Majors scored four times in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of a pair of Tiger errors and a run-scoring single from Kodi Jimmie to grab early momentum. Millsaps added three more runs in the third, using three hits and a hit batter to extend the lead to 7-0.

Sewanee answered in the bottom of the third. Christian Cain drew a leadoff walk and Reagan Huskey singled to right to put runners at first and second. Grace Black followed with a double to left center, driving in both runners to cut the deficit to 7-2.

Millsaps responded immediately with a run in the fourth on a throwing error, pushing the lead to 8-2. The Majors added three insurance runs in the sixth, highlighted by a three-run home run to left center by Liza Gregg.

The Tigers recorded five hits in the contest. Black finished 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Huskey, Ansley Giffin, Madilyn Parker and Ace Anderson each added a hit.

Abby Winkler (0-6) took the loss after allowing four runs in two innings, and Huskey worked four innings in relief. Julie Amacher earned the win for Millsaps, allowing two runs on three hits in four innings of work.

Sewanee returns to action later this week as it continues conference play.
