Sewanee powers past Oglethorpe behind Price's 12-point day

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Marlin Price recorded a career-high 12 points on two goals and 10 assists, while Sally Herrington scored five goals as Sewanee's women's lacrosse team defeated Oglethorpe, 20-6, on Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in conference play.

Price added three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Herrington contributed an assist, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. Erika Bolcar and Katherine Clark each finished with three goals, while Elizabeth Muller and Sally Whitehead added two goals apiece. Clark also dished out two assists, and Bolcar tallied an assist in the win.

Defensively, Ella Townsend led the Tigers with five ground balls and four caused turnovers, while Whitehead added four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Lilly Jordan earned the win in goal with two saves.

Oglethorpe struck first with a free-position goal, but Sewanee responded quickly as Herrington tied the game off a feed from Price. The Tigers then took the lead on a man-up goal from Bolcar and added a man-down score from Sofia Bean to build momentum.

After Oglethorpe cut into the deficit, Sewanee answered with a 4-1 run to close the opening quarter. Bolcar and Herrington each scored during the stretch, while Muller added a goal in the final minutes to give the Tigers a 6-3 lead after one.

Sewanee controlled the second quarter, holding Oglethorpe scoreless while adding three goals. Price converted a free-position opportunity, and Herrington and Whitehead each found the back of the net in the final 1:30 to send the Tigers into halftime with a 9-3 advantage.

Oglethorpe opened the third quarter with back-to-back goals to trim the deficit to four, but Sewanee responded. The Tigers scored eight of the next nine goals in the period, highlighted by a balanced offensive effort. Kelly and Price scored in quick succession, while Whitehead added a free-position goal. Herrington netted two more during the run, and Clark and Muller each contributed goals as Sewanee extended its lead to 17-6 heading into the fourth.

Sewanee continued to build its advantage in the final quarter, as Clark scored twice, including a man-up goal, and Haley Price capped the scoring with a goal off an assist from Stella Birk to secure the 20-6 victory.

The Tigers outshot Oglethorpe 40-8 and held a 26-8 advantage in ground balls while forcing 28 turnovers.

Sewanee returns to action next weekend as it continues conference play.
