Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Tigers fall to Nazareth, 11-6

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Manoli Loupassi recorded a hat trick, but Nazareth closed the contest on a 4-0 run to defeat Sewanee, 11-6, in men's lacrosse action Friday night at Harris Stadium.

Asa Nischwitz went 12-for-17 at the faceoff X and added seven ground balls to lead the Tigers' possession game. In goal, Jaser Amer totaled nine saves and five ground balls. Loupassi, Will Kennedy, Gus Albright, and Tyler Clary each collected four ground balls, while Charlie Hanson led Sewanee with two caused turnovers.

Griffin Peterson finished with two points, and Robert Freeman added an assist and two ground balls. Hudson Jones, Hank Walsh, and Mac Elliott chipped in two ground balls apiece.

Sewanee jumped out to a fast start, as Nischwitz won the opening faceoff and Loupassi found the back of the net just 35 seconds into the game off a Freeman assist. After another faceoff win, Peterson doubled the lead less than a minute later.

Nazareth responded with a goal on its first offensive possession, but the Tigers answered immediately. Following another Nischwitz faceoff win, Peterson found Sage Cookerly in front of the cage to make it 3-1. The Golden Flyers cut the deficit to one with 6:52 remaining in the first quarter, then tied the game at 3-3 with just 10 seconds left in the period.

Nazareth carried that momentum into the second quarter, scoring twice in the opening minutes as Kyle Rosenberger completed a hat trick to give the visitors a 5-3 advantage. A Sewanee turnover led to another Golden Flyers goal, extending the lead to three.

The Tigers responded midway through the quarter, as Loupassi netted his second of the night and Kennedy followed with a goal at the 6:17 mark to pull Sewanee within one.
Defense took over in the third quarter, with Nazareth scoring the lone goal. Both Amer and Nazareth goalkeeper Sven Habitzreuther recorded four saves in the period.

Loupassi ended a 30-minute scoring drought for Sewanee with 8:55 remaining in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to one. However, Nazareth pulled away late, scoring four unanswered goals to secure the 11-6 victory.

Habitzreuther finished with 14 saves for the Golden Flyers.

Sewanee returns to action Sunday, hosting Hendrix in conference play at noon before traveling to face Southwestern on March 27 and Colorado College on March 28.
