Tigers fall to No.19 Rowan

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Ellen Lewis recorded two points and Kennedy Harcourt turned in a strong all-around performance, but Sewanee fell to No. 19 Rowan in women's lacrosse action Tuesday evening at Puett Field.

Harcourt finished with a goal, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Lewis added a goal and an assist to go along with two draw controls and a ground ball. Marlin Price contributed a goal, two ground balls, and two draw controls, while Sophia Bean led the defensive effort with three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Sally Herrington tallied a goal with two caused turnovers and a ground ball, and Izzo Palmer added two caused turnovers.

Emma Seffensen made eight saves in goal for the Tigers.

Rowan struck quickly, scoring a free-position goal less than a minute into the contest. Sewanee answered following a green card on the Profs, as Lewis found Herrington for a man-up goal to even the score.

Rowan regained the lead just 46 seconds later with another free-position goal, but Price responded with 9:36 remaining in the first quarter to tie the game at 2-2. The Profs closed the opening period with a man-up goal and another free-position score in the final seconds to take a 4-2 lead.

Rowan pulled away in the second quarter, scoring six goals, including two on the advantage, to build a 10-2 lead at halftime.

The Profs continued their momentum out of the break, opening the second half with five straight goals, four of which came on free-position opportunities. Lewis halted the run with a free-position goal, but Rowan added another late in the third to extend its lead.

In the fourth quarter, Allex Kelly and Harcourt each converted free-position chances for Sewanee, while Rowan added two more goals to close out the contest.

Sewanee will open conference play on the road Saturday, traveling to Centre for a noon ET / 11 a.m. CT start.
