Verellen, Rukavina sweep SAA Weekly honors

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's men's tennis team swept the SAA weekly honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Max Verellen earned both Singles and Doubles Athlete of the Week honors, while Drew Rukavina joined him in claiming Doubles Athlete of the Week recognition.

Verellen went 2-0 in singles on the weekend, defeating Hart of No. 40-ranked Occidental, 6-2, 7-5, at line six to secure the clinching point for the Tigers. He followed up that performance later in the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Raghavan of UC Santa Cruz at line five, giving Sewanee a 3-0 lead in the match.

In doubles action, the pair of Drew Rukavina and Max Verellen clinched the doubles point for the Tigers against No. 40-ranked Occidental on Saturday morning with a 6-3 win, helping Sewanee to a 4-0 victory over the Occidental Tigers. Against UC Santa Cruz, both Rukavina and Verellen also earned doubles wins, each competing with different partners at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

Sewanee faces Haverford College on Tuesday afternoon and Chapman on Wednesday to close out its spring break trip to California.
