Tigers send seven into day two of the ITA South Regional

 SEWANEE, Tenn. – Henry Hyden, Samuel Schroerlucke, and Lucas Wrigley moved into the round of 16 in singles, while Aidan McVeigh and Andrew Perez and Henry Hyden and Drew Rukavina moved into the quarterfinals in doubles, as the Sewanee men's tennis team competed in the first day of the 2026 ITA DIII Men's South Regional Championships on Friday in Memphis, Tenn. 

In Main Draw Singles Flight A, No. 8-seeded Henry Hyden earned a pair of victories, defeating Ian Arrese of Mississippi University for Women, 6-4, 6-4, before beating Hacjson Fisher of North Carolina Wesleyan, 6-1, 7-5. Hyden advances to the Round of 16, where he will face No. 12-ranked Sammy Nieder of Emory.

No. 14-ranked Lucas Wrigley also advanced to the Round of 16 after dropping just five games on the opening day. Wrigley defeated Aaron Zoubek of Methodist, 6-3, 6-0, before taking down Braden Monson of Berry, 6-1, 6-1.

No. 7-ranked Samuel Schroerlucke battled past Patricio Cifuentes Aguilar of Asbury, 7-5, 7-6 (1), in the first round before rolling past Rhodes' Nicolas Giatras, 6-0, 6-0, in the second round. Schroerlucke will face No. 10 Aaditt Rishi of Emory in the Round of 16.

Charlie Pizzuti opened the tournament with a 7-5, 6-0 win against Methodist's Jayden Wellman before falling to No. 1-seeded Daniel Kim of Emory, 6-4, 6-3.

Charlie Schweppe defeated Leo Nedkov of Berry, 6-4, 6-3, before falling to No. 11-ranked Adam Singleton of North Carolina Wesleyan, 6-4, 6-2. Drew Rukavina also picked up a first-round victory, defeating Andrew Miller of Berry, 6-2, 6-2, before falling to No. 1-seeded Joshua Lai of Emory, 6-4, 6-1.

Gabriel Cytron defeated Owen Fellrath of Rhodes, 7-6 (5), 6-4, before falling to No. 9-ranked Wesley McClure of Hendrix, 6-3, 6-3. Silas Montana opened with a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Noah George of Oglethorpe before falling to No. 6-ranked Ryan Nash of Emory, 6-2, 6-0. William Lewis defeated Alvaro Gomez of North Carolina Wesleyan, 7-6 (4), 6-2, 10-6, before falling to No. 16-ranked Alex Enghel of Emory, 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles action, Aidan McVeigh and Andrew Perez advanced to the quarterfinals with a pair of victories. The duo defeated No. 7-seeded Maximilian Henderson and Wesley McClure of Hendrix, 6-2, before taking down Methodist's Jayden Wellman and Declan Rayner, 6-4. McVeigh and Perez will face No. 4-seeded Daniel Kim and Joshua Lai of Emory in the quarterfinals.

No. 5-seeded Henry Hyden and Drew Rukavina also advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Rhodes' Connor Lloyd and Sathvik Nath, 6-4, before earning a 6-1 win against Ben Russell and Jackson Fisher of North Carolina Wesleyan. The Tigers will face No. 3-seeded Juno Pethe and Mitchell Deames of Emory in the quarterfinals.

No. 2-seeded Lucas Wrigley and Samuel Schroerlucke opened doubles play with a 6-0 win against Nicholas Miloi and Erwann Monnet of Rhodes before falling to Alvaro Gomez and Julian Valverde of North Carolina Wesleyan, 6-3. Charlie Pizzuti and Silas Montana also competed in doubles action, falling to North Carolina Wesleyan's Largo Joch and Adam Singleton.

In Flight B Singles, which was played in a shortened format with sets to four, Aidan McVeigh, Stephen Smith, Andrew Perez and August Allen each picked up opening-round victories. McVeigh defeated Zachary Hanson of the University of the Ozarks before advancing against Alvar Alonso Herreros of Mississippi University for Women.
Smith battled past Rhodes' Nicolas Miloi after dropping the opening set in a tiebreaker, 4-5 (5), before taking the second set, 4-2, and the match tiebreaker, 10-4. Perez defeated Santiago Perez Barajas of Hendrix, 6-2, 6-0, while Allen defeated Covenant's Lincoln Shine, 4-0, 4-1.

In Flight B Doubles, William Lewis and Stephen Smith advanced to the semifinals with a pair of 6-4 victories against conference opponents from Centre and Rhodes. August Allen and Gabriel Cytron also moved into the semifinals after defeating Covenant's Lincoln Shine and Gavin Patton, 6-1, and Rhodes' Nicholas Giatras and Pierce Collard, 6-3.
