Olsen, Deitch take second, Mangum sets school mark on day three of SAA Championships

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Andrew Olsen and Ella Deitch collected second-place finishes as the Sewanee swimming and diving teams continued to break records on day three of the Southern Athletic Association Swim and Dive Championships at Centre College.

Ella Deitch delivered one of the top performances of the night, setting a school record and earning a second-place finish in the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:34.07. Grace Gearhart also reached the A Finals in the event, placing eighth with a 4:47.35.

Andrew Olsen added another podium finish to his championship meet, touching second in the men's 100 backstroke with a 49.30. Tyler Foster followed in eighth place with a 51.50, while Jackson Pillow posted a 15th-place finish at 54.30.

Record-breaking efforts continued in the men's 100 breaststroke, as Naeem Mangum set Sewanee's school record in the prelims with a 55.60 before placing fourth in the finals at 55.90. Mason Horner added an eighth-place finish, swimming a 57.43. On the women's side, Eleanor Bishop finished eighth in the 100 breast with a 1:08.61.

Strong swims in the 200 freestyle B Finals brought additional points for the Tigers. Sarah Beth Roady captured the B Final title in the women's race with a 1:57.56. On the men's side, Ryder Griffin and Henry Lindeman III went one-two in the B Final, giving Sewanee a big scoring boost.

Sprint butterfly events saw Audrey Francell place fourth in the women's 100 butterfly with a 59.71. Carter Nabors swam a 51.32 in the men's 100 fly, finishing 16th, while Jonathan Brettschneider placed 14th in the men's 400 IM with a 4:25.68.

Relay success closed out the night. The women's 400 medley relay of Natalia Evans, Eleanor Bishop, Audrey Francell, and Ada Digby posted a fourth-place finish in 4:01.30. Caroline Johnson, Deitch, Roady, and McKenna Reed followed with a third-place showing in the B Finals at 4:03.45. On the men's side, Tyler Roster, Mangum, Josh Kim, and Lindeman III finished sixth in 3:29.29, while the B relay of Pillow, Horner, Brettschneider, and Joseph Aidan Ocasio placed 14th with a 3:40.12.

On the boards, Jonah Kearns collected a fifth-place finish in the men's 3-meter, scoring a 441.85. Korbin Smith recorded a 10th-place finish for the Tigers in the prelims, scoring a 240.90. 

After three days of competition, the Sewanee women remain in fourth place with 308 points, while the men move into fifth place with 325 points heading into the final day.
