Sewanee drops home contest to Millsaps

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Maddox Franklin threw two touchdown passes, while Brennan Reed tallied a career-high 74 receiving yards on seven catches, but the Sewanee Tigers fell to Millsaps College, 62-14, on Saturday afternoon.

On the ground, Mixon had 14 carries for 64 yards while also catching two passes for 17 yards and a touchdown. Franklin got the start and threw for 130 yards, while Cam Beasley also took snaps at quarterback, completing five passes with a long of 20.

Kai Perry and Desmond Gilbert each recorded a sack for the Tigers' defense, and Albert Clark broke up two passes. Michael Showalter blocked an extra point attempt.

Millsaps' Carl Reed Jr. found Dare Davis for a 49-yarder on the Majors' opening drive, and he located Sean Johnson from six yards out on the ensuing possession, to give Millsaps a 14-0 lead early.

With 2:46 to go in the quarter, Franklin threw a checkdown to Barton Mixon on third-and-goal from the 19. Mixon weaved his way through blockers and avoided a couple shoestring tackles for the touchdown.

In the final seconds of the first, Reed located Elliott for a 14-yarder, putting the Majors up 21-7.

In the second, Franklin threw a 14-yard touchdown pass down the middle to Na'Shawn Holman. The Tigers found themselves down 21-14 with 10:55 left.

Markell Kyer scored a seven-yarder on a pass from Reed with 2:28 on the clock, and the Majors led 28-14 at halftime.

Eighteen seconds into the third quarter, Millsaps took advantage of a Sewanee fumble, with Reed connecting with Joel Vaughn II on a 23-yard touchdown pass. Millsaps quickly extended the lead less than three minutes later, as quarterback Grant Bizjack found Cornelious Dates for a 40-yard touchdown, to extend the Majors' lead to 42-14.

Tameron Patterson tallied a 37-yard touchdown run midway through the third, and Zayden Reed caught a 34-yarder from quarterback Quez Goss with 54 seconds left in the period. The Majors led 55-14 at the end of the third.

Late in the fourth, Jitt Carr scored on a 16-yard run.
