Mixon rushes for career-high 243 yards, Tigers fall at Centre

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Barton Mixon ran for a career-high 243 yards, and Na'Shawn Holman tallied 105 receiving yards and 90 kick return yards, but the Sewanee Tigers dropped an SAA contest to Centre College in Danville, Ky. 69-30 on Saturday afternoon.

Holman's twin brother Na'Zaiyah Holman also hauled in four catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. Mixon and the Holman twins combined for over 500 all-purpose yards.

Freshman Clay Woody made his first career interception in the third quarter at the Sewanee 18, stopping a potential Centre scoring drive. Albert Clark, Michael Showalter, and Peyton Martin each contributed a solo sack apiece. Martin led the way for Sewanee with eight total tackles, with Showalter adding seven.

Levi Dorsey connected on a season-long 30-yard field goal in the first quarter.

Mason Trimble opened the scoring on a 54-yard touchdown to Dant Bowling. After Dorsey's field goal, Isaac Johnson made a 33-yarder two minutes later to extend Centre's lead to 10-3.

The Tigers engineered a three-play, 92-yard drive, aided by a 69-yard Mixon run and a 13-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Maddox Franklin, to tie the game 10-10 with 3:32 left in the first.

The Colonels then scored 24 unanswered points. Johnson made a 23-yard field goal in the second quarter, and Trimble threw three more touchdown passes to put Centre up 34-10.

Mixon found the end zone on a four-yard rushing touchdown with a minute left, but Trimble connected with Jakei Tarter for a 73-yard touchdown. Centre led 41-17 at halftime.

Trimble added two third-quarter touchdowns to extend the lead to 55-17.

Mixon cut Centre's lead to 55-24 on a one-yard run with 10:02 to go in the game. But Terry Cayson collected a 62-yard touchdown from Jake Carson to extend Centre's lead to 62-24 less than a minute later.

With 2:26 to go in regulation, Na'Zaiyah Holman caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Franklin to put Sewanee's side of the scoreline at 30.

Dylan Gaiser added a long rushing touchdown for the Colonels to cap off the day.

The Tigers travel to San Antonio, Texas to face Trinity at 1 p.m. CT.
