Tigers fall in NCAA Round of 16 to No. 6 Emory

Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee men's tennis faced No. 6 Emory in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-0. 

The Eagles took control early, earning the doubles point with 6-2 wins at both No. 1 and No. 2. At No. 3, Talman Ramsey and Gil Weston held a 4-3 lead before play was halted following Emory's clinch of the doubles point.

In singles, Jordan Theron claimed the first set at No. 1, 6-4, but Emory continued its strong performance across the lineup. Christian Liew earned a win over Ramsey at No. 4, and No. 11-ranked Ruilin Feng defeated Ben Lammert at No. 2. At No. 6, No. 47-ranked John Lasanajak secured a berth to the quarterfinals for Emory, defeating Max Verellen 6-2, 6-1. 

Sewanee ends the season 18-5 with its third consecutive NCAA appearance, post-COVID.

Theron and Quinn Wicklund will travel to Claremont, Calif. where Theron will compete in the individual singles and Wicklund will join for the doubles championships with competition set to start on May 23 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College.
