Men's lacrosse rolls past Hendrix, 17-3

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Manoli Loupassi and Charles Moran each recorded six points as the Sewanee men's lacrosse team rolled to a 17-3 road win over Hendrix on Sunday afternoon.

Loupassi scored five goals and added an assist, marking his sixth consecutive game with at least three points. Moran finished with two goals and four assists. Niko Maheras contributed two goals and two assists, while Sage Cookerly and Will Kennedy each had two goals and an assist. Henry Westfall added a goal and two assists.

On the defensive end, Gus Albright paced the Tigers with four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Brady Cole caused two turnovers and picked up six ground balls, while Cam Thornton also forced a pair of turnovers.

Sewanee dominated possession thanks to the faceoff unit. Asa Nischwitz went 11-of-12 with eight ground balls, and Clay Upchurch added a 7-of-11 performance.

Despite 10 consecutive saves from Hendrix goalie Ian Domeika in the first quarter and two early goals by the Warriors, Kennedy broke through for Sewanee 30 seconds into the second quarter off a Moran assist. From there, the Tigers exploded for 17 unanswered goals before Hendrix added a final goal with 27 seconds remaining.

Sewanee outshot Hendrix 68-18, including a 40-6 edge in shots on goal. Domeika finished with 23 saves.

A caused turnover and ground ball by Albright led to Sewanee's second goal as Cookerly found Loupassi. Maheras followed with a goal off a Kennedy assist, and the Tigers closed the half with three quick goals. Cookerly scored from Westfall, Henk Walsh connected on a feed from Loupassi, and Robert Freeman added another with 13 seconds left in the half.

The Tigers opened the third quarter with another trio of goals without Hendrix gaining possession. Loupassi scored off a Griffin Peterson assist, Kennedy followed 28 seconds later off a faceoff win and pass from Moran, and Maheras scored off another faceoff win, this time from Upchurch and an assist from Westfall. Loupassi would add another goal late in the third, assisted by JM DuPree.

In the fourth, Loupassi netted his fourth of the day following a Hendrix turnover. A caused turnover by Maheras set up a Moran goal, and the Tigers rattled off five more scores in a dominant stretch. Loupassi scored again off a Moran feed just three seconds after a faceoff win, and Moran added another goal after an Upchurch win and an assist from Corbet Darden. Walsh netted his second, also assisted by Moran. Cookerly and Westfall rounded out the scoring for Sewanee.

Sewanee returns home to wrap up the regular season, hosting Berry on April 12 for Senior Day and Centre on April 19.
