Six-run sixth inning carries Tigers past Hendrix in series finale

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Abbie Buckner doubled, drove in two runs and scored three times, Sydney Tackett drove in two runs and Reagan Huskey allowed one run on six hits in the circle in Sewanee's 9-1 win over Hendrix College here Sunday in softball action.
 
The Tigers (10-25, 4-11 SAA) salvaged the final game of the series and the last regular season contest after dropping the first two games to the Warriors (11-18, 4-8) on Saturday. Sewanee led 1-0 until Hendrix tied the game in the top of the fifth with a solo homer from Betty Wolfe.
 
The Tigers regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and exploded for five runs on four hits in the sixth. Maggie Barker collected two hits and Madilyn Parker added two hits for Sewanee as well.
 
Huskey (7-15) scattered six hits over six innings of work, giving up one walk and two strikeouts to pick up the win. Emmaline Trosclair (0-6) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on six hits with six walks and three strikeouts in five-plus innings.
 
The Tigers got on the board in the first inning after a leadoff walk by Buckner, who went to second on a passed ball and third on a single from Barker. Parker's sacrifice fly to center plated the run for an early lead.
 
Huskey stranded a pair of Warriors in the second when Kaycee Schoen singled and Peyton Frady doubled with two outs before Austynn Caudle grounded out to end the inning.
 
Sewanee also had two baserunners in the bottom of the inning after a one-out double from Ansley Giffin. Huskey followed with a single to right, putting runners on the corners, but Giffin was thrown out at the plate on the double steal attempt.
 
Wolfe homered to rightcenter with one out in the fifth inning for Hendrix, knotting the game at one.
 
The Tigers responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead, starting with a leadoff walk by Buckner, who stole second and scored on Parker's double to leftcenter. Hannah Wilson then singled to left, plating Parker for a 3-1 advantage.
 
Sewanee broke the game open in the sixth, beginning with a walk by Giffin and Huskey reached on an error after a sacrifice attempt. Christian Cain walked, loading the bases, and Buckner greeted reliever Emma Salis with a two-run double to left.
 
Barker singled home a run and with two outs, Tackett doubled to center, driving in two more. Sophie Nolen's single to center pushed across Tackett with the final run, ending the game early.
