Sydney Tackett posted three hits and three RBIs and
Abbie Buckner added two hits, but Hendrix College scored twice in the top of the seventh to defeat Sewanee, 5-4, in softball action in the second game of a doubleheader here Saturday.
In the opener Hendrix pitcher Emma Salis tossed a four-hit shutout, helping the Warriors to a 5-0 win. She walked three and struck out four, stranded seven Tigers (9-25, 3-11 SAA) on the base paths. Buckner collected two hits and walked once in the loss.
Hendrix (10-19, 4-7) plated two runs in the first and three more in the second before Sewanee starter Reagan Huskey settled down, giving up five runs, three earned, on five hits. She walked three and struck out six in the defeat.
The Tigers scored twice in the first inning of the second game, including an RBI double from Tackett. The Warriors plated a run in the third and two more in the fifth and held a 3-2 edge until Tackett led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run, her first of the year.
Hendrix added two more runs in the seventh and Tackett drove in a run in the bottom of the inning.
Sophie Nolen popped up for the second out before
Ansley Giffin walked, loading the bases, but
Christian Cain struck out to end the contest.
Sadie Lewis tossed five innings for Hendrix, allowing three runs on eight hits. Tori Veith picked up the win with two innings of relief, giving up one run on one hit with four walks and four strikeouts.
Giffin worked the first 3.1 innings for the Tigers, allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Huskey (6-15) suffered the loss in the second game as well, giving up two runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
