Men's Tennis picks up Saturday doubleheader against No. 19 Mary Washington and Berry

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. –The Sewanee men's tennis team turned in a dominant performance on Saturday, dropping just one match across a doubleheader sweep of No. 19 Mary Washington and conference foe Berry.
The Tigers opened the day with an impressive 6-1 win over nationally ranked Mary Washington, followed by a 7-0 sweep of Berry in the afternoon to remain unbeaten in SAA play.

In the first match of the day, the Tigers picked up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund collected a 6-3 win at one, and Andre-Remi Jakobi and Ben Lammert clinched the doubles point with a win at two with the same score, 6-3. William Fromherz and Matt Scott of Mary Washington, collected the win at three doubles over Talman Ramsey and Gil Weston, 6-4. 

Theron quickly made it a 2-0 match as he picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at line one in under an hour of play. Ramsey won at five, 6-4, 6-1 to put the Tigers within one. Gil Weston secured the clinch with a 6-2, 6-3 win at six singles, defeating the 19th-ranked Eagles. 

Wicklund then added a three-set win at No. 4, taking the super tiebreaker 10-6 after splitting the first two sets. Lammert followed with a straight-set win at No. 3, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Jakobi battled at No. 2 but came up short in a 7-6 (4), 6-4 decision—Mary Washington's lone point of the match.

Against Berry, Theron and Wicklund collected a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, Lammert and Jakobi win at No. 2, 6-3, and Ramsey and Weston secured the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win. 

Ramsey set the tone in singles, losing just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5. Lammert followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2, and Max Verellen clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-0 result at No. 6. Weston earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4, while Theron capped his 4-0 day with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1. Jakobi closed the match with a 6-4, 7-6(4) win at No. 3.

Sewanee will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, April 13, when the Tigers host Oglethorpe at 9 a.m.
