Tigers open California trip with 4-3 win over Westmont

Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's men's tennis team secured a 4-3 win over DII Westmont in an exhibition match on Friday in California as Andre Remi Jakobi clinched the match for the Tigers at three singles.

The Tigers set the tone in doubles, sweeping all three matches. At No. 2 doubles, Ben Lammert and Jakobi collected a 6-2 win. Quinn Wicklund and Max Verellen clinched the doubles point at No. 3 with a 6-4 win and Talman Ramsey and Gil Weston completed the sweep with a 6-4 win at one.

Ramsey maintained the momentum into singles, quickly putting the Tigers up 2-0 as he didn't drop a game at line four with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Austin Stone defeated Wicklund at one to put Westmont on the board, but Henry Hyden put Sewanee up 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 win at six. Jakobi then clinched the match for the Tigers at three as he won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5) before rolling through the second set for a 6-1 decision.

Westmont closed out the match with wins at two and five. Lammert fell at No. 2, 7-5, 6-3 and Weston dropped a third set tiebreaker, falling 6-2, 4-6, 10-12.

The Tigers face UC Santa Cruz on Monday at Noon CT (10 AM PT) before closing out their spring break trip facing three ranked opponents.
