Tigers take series finale against Rhodes in seven innings, 18-5

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Behind five scoreless innings from Taj Donald and a relentless offensive attack, Sewanee rolled past Rhodes in the series finale, securing an 18-5 victory in seven innings. The Tigers plated at least one run in every inning and turned two double plays to set the tone defensively.

Sewanee wasted no time getting on the board, capitalizing on a Rhodes fielding error in the first. With two outs, Tyler Pinson delivered an RBI single to left center, and Will Jennewein followed with a two-RBI double to give the Tigers an early 3-0 advantage.

The offense kept rolling in the second. Luke Thompson led off with a triple to center field, and Aidan Petrocco drove him in with a sacrifice fly. After a Teel double, Pou tripled to extend the lead before Fortman added an RBI single, pushing Sewanee ahead 6-0. Meanwhile, Donald made quick work of the Rhodes lineup, facing the minimum through two innings as the Tigers turned double plays to end both frames.

Jennewein opened the third inning with a solo home run, and the Tigers weren't done. Thompson singled before Owen Andress launched his first career home run, a two-run shot that stretched the lead to 9-0.

Pinson added an RBI single in the fourth, scoring Pou to make it 10-0, and Sewanee broke the game open in the fifth with a six-run outburst. Petrocco led off with a single, and after a Pou double, Fortman drove in two with a double to center. Jennewein kept the pressure on with a two-RBI double, plating Pinson and Fortman. Later in the inning, Petrocco capped the scoring with a two-RBI double, giving the Tigers a commanding 16-0 lead.

Rhodes broke through in the sixth with a two-run homer and another run on a fielder's choice, but Sewanee responded with two more in the bottom half as John Bagwell's two-RBI single brought home Jude Wascom and Luke Short.

The Lynx added two more runs in the seventh, but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Tigers closed out the victory in seven innings.

Donald earned the win with a dominant performance, allowing just five hits over five shutout innings while striking out two and walking none.

Jennewein led the Tigers' offense, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs. Petrocco, Pou, Fortman, Pinson, and Thompson each recorded two hits. Petrocco finished with three RBIs and two runs, Pou scored three times, Fortman drove in three and crossed the plate twice, and Pinson tallied two RBIs and two runs.

Sewanee returns to action on Tuesday afternoon against Maryville before hosting Millsaps for a three-game series, beginning with a Saturday doubleheader and concluding with a single game on Sunday.
