SEWANEE, Tenn. –

Alden Wright each collected two hits,
Benjamin Wilson drove in two runs and six Sewanee pitchers combined on a two-hitter in Sewanee's 5-2 victory over Maryville College in baseball action here Tuesday afternoon at Montgomery Field.
The Tigers (14-9) posted two runs in the second inning thanks to a pair of errors by the Scots and another set-up Fortman's RBI double in the third inning. Sewanee added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on Wilson's double to rightcenter in his first collegiate at-bat.
Austin Graber started for the Tigers and worked two scoreless frames before
Childers Winn (1-0) tossed three perfect innings on just 29 pitches, registering five ground ball outs.
Braeden Mefford,
Jack Merril and
Ben Weiser each pitched scoreless innings before the Scots (15-8) got a two-run homer in the ninth from Colin Dunworth.
Reece Jordan posted a one-out single in the second inning for Maryville before four Sewanee hurlers retired 20 consecutive batters. Weiser hit Ashton Whiteaker to leadoff the eighth to end the stretch but then induced a 6-4-3 doubleplay from Daniel Montana.
Kaden Wimsatt (0-2) tossed seven innings for the Scots, allowing three unearned runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out six. Maryville committed four errors in the game, three of those by Wimsatt, leading to the three unearned runs.
Fortman drew a leadoff walk in the second inning and
Will Jennewein reached on a fielding error by Wimsatt on a sacrifice bunt attempt. Fortman stole third when
Alden Wright squared to bunt and then Jennewein took off early from first, trying to draw a throw or get in a rundown.
Wimsatt's throw to second sailed between the second baseman and shortstop, right over the second base bag, allowing Fortman to score and Jennewein to reach third. Wright followed with an RBI single to center for a 2-0 Tigers lead.
Aidan Petrocco reached on a throwing error by Maryville third baseman Frank Derner with one out in the third and with two outs, Fortman lined an RBI double just inside the third base bag, extending the advantage to 3-0.
The Tigers added to the lead in the eighth when Fortman singled off Derner's glove and Jennewein walked. A ground ball from Wright pushed the runners to second and third and pinch-hitter Wilson sliced a double into rightcenter, plating both runners for a 5-0 edge.
Pinch-hitter Jacob Johnston drew a leadoff walk against
Henry Collins in the ninth and with one out, Dunworth lined a home run over the wall in rightcenter. Collins got two fly balls to end the contest for the Tigers.
Sewanee hosts Millsaps College this weekend in a three-game series beginning Saturday with a Noon doubleheader.
