Morrison places second in hurdles, third in 55-meters for Tiger track

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Freshman Journey Morrison placed second in the hurdles and third in the 55-meter dash while freshman Emory Rhodes won the pole vault and sophomore Jimmy Holmes was second in the 400-meters at the Sewanee Invitational on Saturday at the Fowler Fieldhouse.
 
The meet was a tuneup for next week's SAA Championships in Danville, Ky.
 
Morris posted a time of 8.89 in qualifying and ran 8.81 to finish second in the 55-meter hurdles. Rhodes posted a qualifying time of 9.43 and ran 9.26 in the final for fourth while senior Jocelyn Covaney finished fifth in 9.61 (9.85 in qualifying) and junior Erin Graffeo was sixth in 10.01 (10.31 in qualifying).
 
In the 55-meter dash, Morris recorded a 7.60 in qualifying and 7.63 in the finals for third and freshman Arianna Shirak placed sixth in 7.79 (7.81 in qualifying).
 
Sophomore Abigail Armstrong placed fourth in the 800-meters in 2:35.68 while Shirak finished sixth in the 200-meters in 28.71. In the mile run sophomore Eleanor Graham and freshman Livi Burns were seventh and eighth, respectively, with times of 6:13.08 and 6:13.38 while freshman Molly Emmett was 10th (6:43.67) and freshman Josie Blanton placed 11th (7:05.26).
 
In the field events Rhodes won the pole vault, clearing 9-feet, 10-inches and senior Kamilla Haidaienko finished fourth in the weight throw (37-feet, 1-inch) and sixth in the shot put (33-5.5). Freshman Grace Potter was third in the high jump (4-5.25), seventh in the triple jump (29-8) and 10th in the long jump (14-2.75).
 
For the men, Holmes finished second and sophomore Jackson Knoll was third in the 400 with times of 54.18 and 54.78, respectively. Knoll also placed seventh in the 55-meter dash in 7.18 (6.93 in qualifying). Holmes (7.01), junior Nana Addo (7.07), freshman James Brockway (7.12) and senior Jenkins Darbney (7.17) did not qualify for the finals in the event.

Freshman Declan Oberlies finished fourth in the 800-meters in 2:08.95, junior Brandon Christ was fifth in 2:12.41 and freshman Henry Zanone placed eighth in 2:22.14. Oberlies also was sixth in the mile run in 4:44.72.
 
Junior Lane Gamble placed fifth in the 200 in 24.31 while junior Gavin Stallings was 12th (26.19).
 
In the field events, junior Sam Leonard cleared 6-feet, 2.75-inches for third place in the high jump and freshman Elliott Allen posted a mark of 13-feet, 3.5-inches in the pole vault for fifth place.
 
Junior Gavin Potter finished seventh in the weight throw (37-2) and ninth in the shot put (35-2.5) while sophomore Stevie Mack was ninth in the weight throw (36-11) and 10th in the shot put (34-1).
