Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Fourth quarter sends Pioneers past Tigers

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Manoli Loupassi scored four goals, but the Tigers fell just short in a 12-11 road loss to Transylvania on Saturday afternoon.

Sewanee opened strong with three unanswered goals in under two minutes. Loupassi netted the first, followed by back-to-back goals from Charles Moran, including one on a man-up opportunity. The Pioneers responded with three consecutive goals to tie the game.

Will Kennedy added another goal for Sewanee, but Transylvania quickly answered. Loupassi gave the Tigers a slight edge to close the first quarter, capitalizing on a slashing penalty against the Pioneers.

Early in the second quarter, a Sewanee turnover led to a Transylvania goal, leveling the score. However, a ground ball pickup by Carter Cole set up Devon Root's goal, sparking a three-goal run for the Tigers. Asa Nischwitz won the ensuing faceoff, leading to a quick goal by Kennedy, and Henry Westfall extended the lead to 8-5. Transylvania responded with three straight goals — two on man-up opportunities — to tie the game at halftime.

Hank Walsh opened the third-quarter scoring to put Sewanee back in front, followed by another Loupassi goal less than a minute later. But the Pioneers answered off a faceoff win to stay within reach.

After a ground ball recovery by Tanner Furyk off a Transylvania turnover, Loupassi recorded his fourth goal of the game, giving Sewanee a two-goal cushion.
The Tigers struggled to find their rhythm in the fourth quarter, managing just seven shots, with three on target. Transylvania capitalized, scoring three unanswered goals and taking their first lead of the game with 5:24 remaining, ultimately securing the win.

Gus Albright and Asa Nischwitz each collected four ground balls, with Nischwitz going 17-of-25 in faceoffs.

Sewanee travels to Piedmont next Thursday before returning home to host Franklin and Marshall on March 8 at 1 p.m. CT.
