Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Tigers fall in day two of Music City Classic

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Charles Moran scored two fourth-quarter goals to erase a deficit that had persisted since midway through the second, but the Sewanee men's lacrosse team ultimately fell to Capital on day two of the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn.

Moran's unassisted goals, scored just over two minutes apart, tied the game in the fourth. However, Capital responded with the game-winning goal at the 4:13 mark. Sewanee had several late opportunities, but Capital goalkeeper Tyler Carney made two crucial saves, and the Tigers hit the pipe on back-to-back shots as time expired.
Both teams showcased strong defensive efforts early, with the game remaining scoreless for the first 6:45. Capital struck first with an unassisted goal, but Robert Freeman quickly responded less than two minutes later to tie the game.

The Tigers opened the second quarter with four consecutive shots, but Carney stood tall with two key saves. Capital capitalized on their next possession when Mason Spalding connected with Colton Woods to give the Comets the lead. Sewanee answered during a five-on-five sequence, with Will Kennedy assisting Devon Root. A Sewanee turnover, however, led to another Capital goal, and the Comets took a 3-2 lead into halftime after a defensive standoff in the final five minutes of the quarter.

Both teams struggled to score in the third quarter until Capital broke through with 41 seconds remaining, extending their lead to two.

Cam Thornton led the Tigers with three caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Will Kennedy added two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Carney finished with 14 saves for Capital, while Flynn Bowman made five saves for Sewanee.

The Tigers hit the road next, facing Transylvania on Feb. 22 and Piedmont on Feb. 27.
