Tigers outlast Albion in Nashville, 12-11

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Will Kennedy collected three goals and an assist in the first quarter as the Tigers outlasted Albion on the first day of the Music City Classic on Saturday afternoon, 12-11.

Kennedy started the Tigers with a quick goal from Sage Cookerly's assist. However, the Brits found a quick answer off an unassisted goal. A cross-check from Albion gave Sewanee their first man-up opportunity as Kennedy collected his second goal of the day from Manoli Loupassi. Another Brits penalty gave the Tigers another man-up look as Robert Freeman netted the goal with an assist from Kennedy. Albion tallied another goal, but could not stop Kennedy as he found his last goal of the quarter off an assist from Griffin Peterson

A delay of game from Sewanee gave Albion a look at a man-up opportunity, where they capitalized for a 4-3 end of the first. The Brits continued their momentum from the end of the first quarter, collecting a goal from Andrew Miller for a tie game.

Charles Moran tacked on the only other game of the second quarter with 4:46 to play to give Sewanee the lead again.

The Brits tied the game again with 10:05 on the clock in the second half, but Freeman responded with a goal of his own to put the Tigers back ahead.

Albion took the momentum as they collected four unanswered goals in just under three minutes to take the lead for the first time in the game.

Sewanee found an answer to one of the goals as they tallied a buzzer-beater goal off a quick transition clear with Brady Cole finding Charles Moran right before time expired.

Asa Nischwitz started the quarter strong at the x, winning the ball and giving Sewanee a chance to start on offense, and Henry Westfall found the back of the net. The Brits tacked on another to lead by two, but another cross-check gave Sewanee an opportunity. Devon Root connected with Kennedy for a one-goal game.

Albion tallied an insurance goal, but the Tigers collected three back-to-back goals to end the game and come away with the win. Charles Moran tallied the first coming off a caused turnover by Mac Elliott and a ground ball from Flynn Bowman

After an Albion faceoff win, Cam Thornton came up with a huge caused turnover and Sage Cookerly tied the game at 11 on the ensuing possession. An Albion turnover gave Sewanee the ball just 10 seconds later and Griffen Peterson scored the game-winning goal with 3:17 left on the clock. Kennedy collected a huge caused turnover with 2:17 on the clock for Sewanee, as Loupassi picked up the ground ball and another Albion penalty, this time offsides, all but secured the win for the Tigers.

Asa Nischwitz was 13-of-24 from the dot with eight ground balls, while Gus Albright and Mac Elliott led the Tigers defensively with two caused turnovers each.

The Tigers will face Capital tomorrow in day two of the Music City Classic at 12:30 p.m. before heading on the road for two games against Transylvania and Piedmont on Feb. 22 and 27.
