SEWANEE, Tenn. –
Reagen Huskey tossed a complete game and
Abbie Buckner posted two hits and two RBIs in Sewanee's 4-1 victory over LaGrange College in softball action Friday in LaGrange, Ga., to open the season.
The Tigers dropped the second game against the Panthers, 9-4, splitting the doubleheader.
Sewanee plated single runs in the fourth and seventh innings and plated two more runs in the fifth on a fielder's choice by
Kaylie Smith and an RBI single from Buckner, who also scored the game's first run in the fourth on a single by
Sydney Tackett. Buckner's groundout in the seventh pushed across the fourth run for the Tigers.
That was more than enough for Huskey (1-0), who scattered seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts in the victory. Claire Chamberlain suffered the loss for LaGrange, allowing four runs on seven hits in a complete game.
Sewanee scored three times in the top of the first of the second game on an RBI single by Barker and a two-run double from

Barker and Parker each collected two hits for the Tigers in the loss. Buckner was roughed up in the circle, taking the loss, giving up nine five runs on seven hits.
In the opener, Huskey worked out of a jam in the third after singles by Chamberlain and Jaselyn Couch, but the righthander induced a groundout and a strikeout to keep the game scoreless.
Chamberlain retired the first nine batters of the game before Buckner singled to leadoff the fourth. She went to second on Huskey's fly ball and scored on Tackett's two-out single to right.
In the fifth
Ansley Giffin and
Sophie Nolen both singled to start the frame and moved to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by
Grace Black. Smith's fielder's choice plated a run and another came across on Bucker's RBI single for a 3-0 edge.
Black and Smith both singled in the seventh and pinch-runner Sadie Meachum scored on Buckner's fielder's choice.
In the bottom of the seventh Chamberlain, Breonn Newbille and Couch all singled, loading the bases with one out. Katelyn Minnihan's grounder plated a run before Huskey got Cannon Ramsey to fly out to end the game.
In the second game Huskey reached on an error in the first and Tackett and Barker followed with singles, Barker's driving in a run. Parker then delivered a two-run double for a quick 3-0 Tigers lead.
Ramsey drove in a run with a double and another came across on an errant throw in the bottom of the inning for LaGrange. Minnihan, Cecilia Gonzalez and Kayla Helms all had RBIs in a three-run second inning for the Panthers.
Kenzie Hornsby, Abby Hefner, Couch and Abby Vanhoose collected RBIs in the four-run fifth inning for LaGrange.
In the seventh Black reached on an error and Smith and Buckner both singled, loading the bases. Tackett's sacrifice fly plated a run, but that was all the Tigers would get in the inning.
