Boyd, Falvey power Sewanee past Covenant, 90-65

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Janie Boyd scored a career-high 22 points with four rebounds, while Olivia Falvey added 25 points to lead Sewanee to a 90-65 win over Covenant on Friday night inside the Barnes Physical Education Center.

Boyd also tallied seven steals and four assists in the victory. Eliza Everett finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Hannah Cleveland added 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Sewanee set the tone early, jumping out to a 12-3 lead behind 11 quick points from Falvey and baskets from Boyd and Cleveland in the opening two-and-a-half minutes. The Tigers forced six steals and nine Covenant turnovers in the opening quarter, closing the period on a 15-3 run highlighted by scores from Boyd, Cleveland, Micha Lovelace, and Falvey to take a 32-13 lead after one.

The Tigers continued to control the game in the second quarter, opening the period with a steal and fast-break layup from Everett. Sewanee shot 69.2 percent from the field in the quarter and knocked down three three-pointers from Grace Gavin and Brianna Keating-Rendon. Covenant found some success in the paint late, but Sewanee answered with a 10-3 run over the final three minutes to carry a 55-29 advantage into halftime.

Sewanee maintained momentum in the third quarter, opening the half with five unanswered points to extend the lead to 31. Boyd and Falvey continued to pace the offense as the Tigers capitalized on Covenant turnovers. Despite an 11-3 run by the Scots late in the quarter, Sewanee held a 30-point lead heading into the final period.

The Tigers maintained control in the fourth quarter, scoring eight points while limiting Covenant to 13, to close out the 90-65 victory.

Sewanee will host the Sewanee Classic on Dec. 29-30, opening the tournament against Covenant before facing Berea on Dec. 30 at 2 p.m.
