Olivia Falvey posted 22 points,
Cydney Wright recorded 10 points and nine rebounds while
Adison Howard handed out 12 assists, as seven Sewanee players finished in double figures in a 110-65 victory over Wesleyan College here Sunday in women's basketball action at Juhan Gymnasium.
The Tigers (1-0) put together an 11-0 run late in the first quarter to take the lead for good and then took advantage of turnovers and poor shooting from the Wolves (0-1) to take control and never look back. Wesleyan connected on 6-of-14 field goals in the first quarter but then made just 5-for-32 combined in the second and third periods.
Brianna Keating-Rendon registered four of the team's 11 3-pointers in the contest and
Eliza Everett grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds off the bench, six on the offensive glass. The Tigers forced 27 turnovers by Wesleyan, turning those into 39 points.
Janie Boyd netted 16 points with seven assists while
Micha Lovelace made a pair of triples and posted 13 points off the bench. Keating-Rendon finished with 12 points and
Hannah Cleveland added 11 points, five boards and four assists. Sewanee tallied 34 assists on 41 made field goals in the game.
Zariah Davis led the Wolves with 25 points with four 3-pointers and Briscia Tejada was the only other Wesleyan player in double figures with 11.
Both teams started quickly, with Davis hitting a 3-pointer and baskets by Tejada and Davis giving Wesleyan an 8-6 edge. Falvey and Wright collected buckets for the Tigers before a triple by Lovelace.
Maya Whitehead made two free throws and a layup for Wesleyan, but Lovelace's second three of the period tied the game at 14. Falvey's old-fashioned 3-point play gave the Tigers a 19-16 advantage and after a basket from Anderia Jackson pulled the Wolves within a point, Sewanee put together an 11-0 spurt over the next three minutes.
Falvey and Cleveland each made field goals before two baskets from Boyd and two foul shots by Howard. Alissa Sandifer ended the run with two free throws with 1.4 seconds left in the quarter, with Sewanee leading, 30-20.
Davis' free throw with 8:18 remaining in the second quarter were the only points for Wesleyan until a layup by Tejada with 1:42 to play before the half. The Tigers netted 17 consecutive points, including layups from Falvey and Boyd and the first triple of the game by Keating-Rendon.
Grace Gavin and Falvey each collected two straight baskets, pushing the lead to 50-21, before Tejada's layup ended the stretch. Wright and Boyd both made two foul shots in the final minute and Sewanee took a 56-25 advantage to intermission.
Tejada connected on a field goal at the seven-minute mark of the third quarter for the Wolves, the team's only basket until late in the period again. Wesleyan made seven free throws in a six-minute stretch.
Keating-Rendon and Gavin each posted a pair of 3-pointers in the quarter and Lovelace added seven points, including an old-fashioned 3-point play. Cleveland collected six points as well, with Sewanee holding its biggest lead of the game, 91-36, late in the period.
The Tigers travel to Demorest, Ga., next weekend for games against Piedmont University and LaGrange College on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, in the SAA-CCS Classic.
