Lucas Wrigley all won a pair of singles matches in the main draw while Jakobi and Lammert as well as freshman
Samuel Schroerlucke and Wrigley posted two doubles wins for Sewanee men's tennis Friday on the opening day of the ITA South Regional Championships in Memphis, Tenn.
In main draw singles, Jakobi defeated North Carolina Wesleyan's Martin Cardestig, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7, and Asbury University's Ben Moore, 5-7, 7-6 (4), 10-8, advancing to face Emory University's top-seeded Ruilin Feng on Saturday.
Lammert defeated Covenant College's Brock Boehling, 6-2, 6-1, and recorded a 6-1, 6-2, win against North Carolina Wesleyan's Brody Brice. He advances to play Emory's ninth-seeded Ajay Kartik.
Wrigley picked up a 7-5, 6-3, win versus North Carolina Wesleyan's Indrek Raudkivi and advanced to the Round of 16 after Rhodes College's 15
th-seeded Christian Mainella withdrew because of injury. Wrigley takes on Emory's second-seeded Dean Kamenev.
Elsewhere in the main draw, freshman
Charlie Schweppe posted a 7-5, 6-2, win against Rhodes' Topher Thornberry before losing a 6-2, 6-1, decision to North Carolina Wesleyan's Albert Sitwell. Junior
Drew Rukavina defeated Oglethorpe University's Sam Wasko, 6-1, 6-3, before dropping a 7-6 (7), 7-5, decision to Emory's John Lasanajak.
Junior
Henry Hyden defeated Millsaps College's Sam Tuli, 7-6 (3), 6-1, but lost to Emory's Daniel Kim, 4-6, 6-2, 11-9.
Sophomore
Max Verellen dropped his first match, 6-3, 6-4, to North Carolina Wesleyan's Farhaan Patrawala and Schroerlucke lost in his first outing as well, 6-2, 6-3, to Methodist University's third-seeded Matthew Hurley.
In main draw doubles, Schroerlucke and Wrigley defeated Covenant's eighth-seeded Ben Onufrock and Caleb Domkowski, 8-7 (4), and Centre College's Chase Turley and Isaac Flanery, 8-4. The duo advances to face Hendrix College's Wesley McClure and James Thomson.
Lammert and Jakobi won 8-5 over North Carolina Wesleyan's Raukivi and Largo Koch and claimed an 8-7 (1) decision against Berry College's Jake Chapman and Aiden Benoualid. They play North Carolina Weslayan's second-seeded Sitwell and Siddarth Madhavan.
Hyden and freshman
Aidan McVeigh dropped an 8-6 decision to North Carolina Wesleyan's fifth-seeded Cardestig and Patrawala before posting an 8-3 victory against Asbury's Franco Patino and Ignacio Ardiles in the backdraw.
Rukavina and Verellen lost 8-4 to Emory's fourth-seeded Kartik and Matthew Johnstone but picked up an 8-6 victory versus Asbury's Moore and Andres Caceres. Rukavina-Verellen faces Hyden-McVeigh in the backdraw.
Freshman
Stephen Smith and sophomore
Josh Lively lost a pair of matches, 8-6 to North Carolina Wesleyan's Julian Valverde and Brody Brice and then 8-3 to Oglethorpe's Kellen Simmons and Figge Pernfors.
In the B draw in singles, Lively defeated Covenant's Jacob Eldridge, 6-0, 6-4, and won 6-0, 7-5, against Andrew Greaves from Rhodes. He moves on to face Emory's Caleb Zimmerman. Sophomore
William Lewis posted a 6-2, 6-1, win versus Asbury's Jose Ignacio Murillo and won 6-2, 6-2, against Zachary Hudson from the University of the Ozarks. He takes on North Carolina's Largo in the next round.
Senior
George Thomas Alexander claimed a 6-0, 6-4, decision versus Hendrix's Maximilian Henderson before dropping a 6-2, 4-6, 10-4, decision to Erwann Monnett from Rhodes. Freshman
Silas Montana registered a 6-1, 6-0, victory over Covenant's Gavin Patton but lost 7-5, 0-6, 10-7, to North Carolina Wesleyan's Joey Govenlock.
In the B draw in doubles, Alexander and Montana claimed an 8-7 (5) victory against Sergio Munoz Sevilla and Cachary Hanson from the University of the Ozarks and won 8-5 versus Connor Lloyd and Sathvik Nath from Rhodes. The Sewanee duo faces Oglethorpe's Callum Searle and Zack Raymond.
Schweppe and Lewis also posted two wins – 8-7 (5) over Monnett and Nicolas Miloi from Rhodes and 8-6 versus Oglethorpe's Ryler Hymel and Noah George. Schweppe and Lewis take on Emory's Joshua Lai and Ryan Nash.
In the C Draw singles, McVeigh received a first-round bye and defeated Rhodes' Cole McNair, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6, advancing to take on Ryan Rosalin from the University of the Ozarks. Also in singles, Smith defeated Rhodes' Oliver Craddock, 6-1, 5-7, 10-5, and faces Covenant's Cameron Erb.
