Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late goal not enough in men’s soccer defeat to No. 3 Washington & Lee

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Freshman Isaac Rasheed netted his first collegiate goal against #3 Washington & Lee, but the Tigers were unable to find the equalizer, falling to the Generals 1-2 on Friday night.

The game was tightly contested in the first half, with the best chance for the Tigers coming from Stokes McConnell, whose shot ricocheted off the right post with just under five minutes remaining before halftime.

After a physical, but scoreless first half, the Generals were awarded a penalty kick in the 48th minute as Weyimi Agbeyebe put Washington & Lee ahead. Agbeyebe connected again for his second goal of the night, placing the ball just out of reach of goalie Nathan Vanhooeve.

The Tigers responded just six and a half minutes later, as a deflection pass from Noah Bjorkman gave Rasheed possession as he launched a stunning long-range shot over the goalkeeper's head to pull Sewanee back into the game.

In the last seconds of the game, McConnell had one last opportunity to equalize, but his shot with two seconds left sailed over the goalpost, sealing the 1-2 defeat for the Tigers.

The Generals outshot the Tigers 20-13, but Sewanee had just one less shot on target, registering six to Washington & Lee's seven. The match was fiercely contested, featuring 34 fouls and eleven yellow cards, with both goalkeepers making five saves each.

Sewanee will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they face Hampden-Sydney at home at 4:00 p.m.
