Tigers defeat Centre 3-1 on the road

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Natalie BeVier, Mimi Wilson, and Catherine Crane each found the back of the net as Sewanee collected a 3-1 victory over Centre in Danville, Ky., snapping a 20-game losing streak.

The first period was a defensive battle, with just one shot recorded between the two teams.

Sewanee broke through early in the second period. A minute in, BeVier took a penalty corner, positioned herself near the goal, and redirected the ball into the net for the game's opening goal.

Six minutes into the third period, Shepard Ramsey brought the ball down the right side, sending a cross into the circle where Wilson lofted the ball over the goalie for a 2-0 lead.

With 2:50 remaining in the final period, Ramsey initiated a fast break and connected with Crane, who beat two defenders and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to secure the Tigers' third goal of the game.

Centre responded with a late goal off a penalty corner, scoring just under two minutes before the final whistle.

Sewanee outshot Centre 8-6 and recorded six shots on goal compared to the Colonels' one. Centre held a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners.

The Tigers' win marks their first victory over Centre since 2012 and a strong start to the 2024 conference season.

Sewanee returns home next weekend to host matchups against Marian and Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m., before traveling to Wisconsin the following weekend to face both teams again.
