SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sally Herrington recorded six goals with two assists, Emma Burns collected five goals with one assist, and Brooke Sigmon registered a hat-trick with one assist, but Sewanee fell just short of Centre in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon, falling 20-21.

Herrington added three draw-control wins to her season-high eight points and Sigmon collected two draw-control wins and three ground balls. Alex Kelly led Sewanee from the dot, and collected four wins. Sally Whitehead led the Tigers with four ground balls and one caused turnover. Seven other Tigers registered a caused turnover.

The Tigers started fast against Centre as a draw-control win by Winnie Pajcic led to a goal by Alex Kelly 47 seconds into the game. Centre answered with one of their own just over two minutes later.

Elizabeth Muller found Sally Herrinton to start a three-goal run for the Tigers. Brooke Sigmon tacked on the second and Herrington connected on the third for a 4-1 Sewanee lead with just under 10 minutes left in the first quarter.

Centre however started a three-goal run of their own, the first capitalizing on a man-up opportunity and the second coming from a free-position shot.

A draw-control win from Ella Townsend gave Sewanee possession and Herrington connected with Erika Bolcar to gain the lead for Sewanee again.

Centre tallied two back-to-back goals before Sigmon tied the score at six a piece. However, Centre tacked on the last goal of the quarter for a 7-6 game.

Another draw control win to open the second quarter led to a quick goal from Emma Burns. The Tigers capitalized on a man-up opportunity as Sigmon tallied a man-up goal with an assist from Burns.

Centre again answered with three of their own before Bolcar collected another man-up goal with an assist from Raleigh Cooper for a tie score. The Colonels collected three more unanswered goals before Herrington netter another Tiger goal. The Colonels picked up another goal with 33 seconds left in the half for a 14-11 lead.

Sewanee opened the third with three goals to tie the score at 14. Herrington tallied the first just 45 seconds into the period. Burns collected the next two, the first with an assist from Sigmon and the second unassisted.

Centre picked up the next goal, but Herrington won the draw control and found the back of the net for an immediate answer. The Colonels took the lead 16-15, but a free position goal from Claire Dillard tied the score again. However, Centre tacked on another last-second goal with four seconds on the clock to take the lead going into the fourth quarter.

A free position shot from Elizabeth Muller started the final quarter and Herrington connected with Dillard to take the lead 18-17. Centre won the resulting draw control and found the back of the net for an even game with 10:08 to go.

A ground ball from Pajcic led to another goal from Burns, but the Colonels recorded three back-to-back goals to take a two-goal lead.

A draw control from Herrington resulted in another Burn's goal for a one-goal game, but the Tigers were unable to get past the Colonels for a 20-21 game.
