Sewanee tops Oberlin 12-11

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Brooke Sigmon and Sally Herrington collected three goals each, as Herrington scored the game-winning goal with a minute and 44 seconds left in the game against Oberlin in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday night for a 12-11 win. 

Sigmon and Herrington also collected three draw control wins apiece. Herrington added an assist, two caused turnovers, and three ground balls to her night, while Sigmon collected four ground balls and one caused turnover. 

Defensively, Claire Dillard led the Tigers as she registered five caused turnovers and three ground balls, also aiding the office with a goal. Molly Starkey forced three turnovers and Izzo Palmer collected two, both also recording two ground balls each. Rounding out Sewanee's defense, Lilly Jordan collected eight saves for the day. 

Brooke Sigmon collected the first goal of the game off an assist from Elizabeth Muller, but Oberlin answered 28 seconds later to tie the game. 

Sewanee went on an unanswered four-goal run. The first came off a ground ball from Ella Townsend led to a goal from Muller. Erika Bolcar collected a free-positional goal off a man-up opportunity for a 3-1 lead. 

A ground ball from Sigmon led to a goal from Claire Dillard with an assist from Caroline Harlick. A draw-control win from Sigmon led to another Sewanee goal, this time from Bolcar with an assist from Emma Burns

Oberlin answered with three goals to end the period, two from free position shots and one came from a Sewanee turnover for a five-all game to end the first period. 

The second period only saw two goals. The first goal came from Oberlin from a failed clear from the Tigers. 

Burns tied the game at six as the Tigers were a man down off a free-position goal with 22 seconds left to go into halftime tied at six apiece. 

Oberlin opened the second half, collecting another free-position goal to take the lead. Herrington answered with a free position shot of her own to tie the game at seven all. 

Oberlin collected two goals within just under two and a half minutes. 

Sigmon made it a one-goal game as she collected a man-down goal from Herrington before Herrington tied the game at nine all with 28 seconds left in the third. 

Oberlin won the draw control to start the fourth period, as they collected a goal 42 seconds in. 

Burns capitalized on another free position goal to tie the game at 10 all with 10:22 to play. 

With 4:44 in the period, Oberlin recorded another free position goal to gain the lead for the last time. 41 seconds later, Sigmon tallied another free position goal to tie the game. 

With 1:44 second left in the game, Herrington drew the foul and notched the game-winning goal off a free position shot. Herrington won the resulting draw control, as the Tigers were able to run down the clock to one second remaining, securing the win. 

Sewanee travels to Berry this weekend for a Friday night game in Rome, Ga. The Tigers will host their last regular season game and honor their seniors on April 6 at Noon as they host Hendrix.
