Big quarter sinks the Tigers

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Emma Burns collected a hat trick and Sally Herrington tallied two goals, but Sewanee fell in women's lacrosse action on Friday night in Rome, Ga. to the Vikings in SAA conference play.

Herrington tallied the first goal of the game off a free-position shot. Berry collected the next goal before Herrington tallied another with an assist from Alex Kelly

A foul on Sewanee gave Berry their first free position goal of the game to end the first period tied at two all. 

The Tigers collected the first two goals of the second quarter within a minute and eight seconds of each other. Raleigh Cooper collected the first and Erika Bolcar tallied the second with an assist from Brooke Sigmon

With a minute and seven seconds left in the half, Berry collected another free-position goal to get back within one. 

The Vikings pulled away in the third, as they tallied five unanswered goals for an 8-4 lead. 

Burns recorded her first of the game with an assist from Ella Townsend. Berry tallied two within just under a minute of each other, but Burns registered two back-to-back goals from free position shots within 39 seconds of each other for a 7-10 game. The Vikings posted the last goal of the game from a free-position goal of their own. 

The remaining six minutes of the game were scoreless as the Tigers were unable to recover from the Vikings' run in the third quarter for a 7-11 loss. 

Defensively, both Sigmon and Winnie Pajcic collected two caused turnovers, Sigmon tallied two ground balls and Pajcic collected four. 

Sewanee hosts their last conference game as they celebrate their seniors on Saturday, April 6 at Noon CT at Puett Field against Hendrix College.
