Tigers tally five in the fourth period for a come-back win over BSC

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Manoli Loupassi recorded three goals in the fourth quarter as the Tigers overcame a four-goal deficit in the fourth to secure their second conference win of the season against Birmingham-Southern on Friday night in Birmingham, Ala.

The Tigers allowed only one goal in the second half, as the Panthers' lone goal came in the third period, but BSC kept the Tigers scoreless for two periods, gaining an 8-4 lead going into the final period.

JM DuPree collected the first goal for Sewanee in the second half as the Tigers started to notch away at the Panthers' four-goal lead with 12:02 left in the game. Sewanee capitalized off a blocked shot from BSC as Manoli Loupassi tallied the next goal.

Drew Perun won the resulting faceoff, but a blocked shot from Niko Maheras gave BSC the ball. Cameron Herd hit the post against the Tigers, and Jack Selner came up with a vital ground ball as Charles Moran connected with Phelps Thomas to get the Tigers within one goal with 7:09 remaining in the game.

Greg Ix came up with another big save with 5:52 on the clock as the Tigers made quick work capitalizing. Loupassi collected his second goal of the day with an assist from Maheras to tie the game at 8 apiece.

A resulting face-off win from Perun and a ground ball from Alec Jazaeri gave Sewanee the ball as Loupassi registered the go-ahead goal, just over a minute later for his third goal in the fourth period.

Ix came up with another big save as Herd tried one last shot for the Panthers with 13 seconds on the clock, but was denied by Ix and Selner found the ground ball to secure the win for Sewanee.

Maheras recorded the first goal of the game as Hudson Gregory connected with him for a man-up goal. However, BSC capitalized on their own man-up opportunity, creating a one-all game with 6:36 left in the first. A resulting face-off win and ground ball from Perun gave the Tigers the ball as Zach Crain connected on the opportunity for a two-to-one lead.

Maheras tallied the third goal of the game with an assist from Devon Root with 1:38 left in the first, as Sage Cookery posted a last-second goal with an assist from Crain to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead going into the second period.

Nathan Pepe, in goal for the Panthers, made the second and third periods hard for Sewanee as he did not let any goals in and collected six saves in the second period and nine saves in the third period. Pepe's performance between the posts allowed the Panthers to go on a seven-goal run, giving BSC a four-goal lead going into the fourth period. Pepe recorded 22 saves on the night.

Loupassi collected three goals on four shots for the night, also adding one ground ball. Maheras also recorded three points off of two goals and an assist. Crain added one goal and an assist, collecting four ground balls. Selner and Jazaeri both added four ground balls apiece. Selner led the Tigers for the night as he posted three caused turnovers. Perun was 15-of-19 from the faceoff and picked up 11 ground balls for the night, just two shy of his career-best.

Sewanee returns to Harris Stadium for their final non-conference game of the year against Oberlin College on Monday, March 25 at 6 p.m. CT before resuming conference play at Berry on Saturday, March 30 at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.
