Women's lacrosse falls to Stockton in Virginia Beach

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Emma Burns collected four points on two goals and two assists, but the Tigers fell to Stockton in Virginia Beach, Va. on Friday morning in women's lacrosse action. 

Sewanee collected three goals in just under the first eight minutes of the game but was only able to connect on two more for the game. 

Burns tallied the first goal of the game, just a minute and 23 seconds into the game with an assist from Caroline Harlick. Burns then found Brooke Sigmon just 23 seconds later for a 2-0 lead for the Tigers. 

Stockton got on the board, capitalizing on a caused turnover cutting the Tigers' lead to one. 

Sally Herrington collected a man-up goal for Sewanee off an assist from Burns. However, Stockton posted seven goals in a row to end the period and start the second, gaining an 8-3 lead. 

A draw-control win from Marlin Price gave Sewanee possession as Raleigh Cooper scored off a pass from Sigmon. 

However, a free position goal started another run for Stockton as they collected two more goals to end the half with an 11-4 lead. 

Sewanee opened the second half with a yellow card that Stockton took advantage of, notching a man-up goal. 

Claire Dillard collected a ground ball with 2:33 on the clock, which led to a free-position goal by Burns, for her second goal of the day. 

Stockton collected two more goals in the fourth as Lilly Jordan, between the posts for Sewanee collected six saves in the inning. Jordan finished with nine saves for the day. 

Winnie Pajcic and Dillard led the Tigers defensively as they both collected four caused turnovers a piece. Dillard also collected five ground balls and Pajcic recorded three. Herrington and Price both registered three draw-control wins a piece and Erika Bolcar and Clara Earley collected one each. 

Sewanee faces Virginia Wesleyan tomorrow at 4 p.m. CT and 5 p.m. ET before heading home and returning to conference play at Rhodes on March 24 at 1:30 p.m. CT.
