Peyton Erck posted a straight-set singles win but fourth-ranked Case Western Reserve swept the doubles matches and won four singles outings in straight sets in an 8-1 victory over 11
th-ranked Sewanee in men's tennis action late Monday night in Claremont, Calif.
The loss ended a three-match winning streak for the Tigers (5-3).
The Spartans (10-1) won all three doubles matches, with Sahil Daval and Anmay Devaraj defeating Andre-Remi Jajobi and Erck, 8-4, at No. 2 before Vishwa Aduru and Diego Maza won 8-5 at No. 1 against
Jordan Theron and
Quinn Wicklund. Daniel French and Yuvraj Narang collected a 7-5 decision in a tiebreaker at No. 3 versus
Gil Weston and
Talman Ramsey.
In singles Case Western Reserve won in straight sets at Nos. 3-6, starting with a 6-0, 6-1, decision at No. 6 by Maza against
Henry Hyden. Ajay Mahenthiran defeated Ramsey, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3 while Ansh Shah posted a 6-4, 6-2, victory against Wicklund at No. 4.
Erck registered a 6-2, 6-2, win at No. 2 over Michael Sutanto, but Casey Hishinuma claimed a 6-2, 7-6 (6) decision at No. 5 versus Weston and Aduru outlasted Theron at No. 1, 2-6, 7-5, 11-9.
