Sewanee Softball falls in season opener at UT Southern

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. – The University of the South softball team opened up their season as they traveled to Pulaski, Tenn. to face NAIA school, University of Tennessee Southern in a doubleheader.

The Tigers collected three hits in the first game, from three different players, Hannah Wilson, Ansley Giffin, and Grace Black. The third inning was ultimately the Tigers' downfall as the Firehawks sent in 11 runs. The final of game one for the Tigers was 0-16.

In game two, Sewanee had a slow start as UT Southern stuck early collecting a 10-0 lead. A sacrifice flyout with bases loaded sent Davis of UT Southern home followed by a single from Parrot, but the Tigers didn't allow any more runs.

A single from Sydney Tackett to right field drove in the Tiger's first run of the season, scored by Zoe Crockett. In the top of the fourth, Sewanee collected two more runs as Madilyn Parker scored on an error and a sacrifice fly by Eve Bournias sent Ansley Giffin home. However, the late push from the Tigers was not enough to catch up as they fell, 3-12.

Sewanee travels to Columbus, Miss. for the MUW Classic this weekend as they face both Mississippi University for Women and Covenant College twice a piece.
