Tigers drop season opener in St. Louis

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Despite a strong performance from Brianna Keating-Rendon, who scored a career-high 15 points off the bench, and a 10-point effort by Shay Conn, Sewanee fell to Hanover in their season opener, 94-59, on Saturday night in St. Louis, Mo.

Keating-Rendon was impressive from long range, hitting 5-of-6 three-point attempts in 22 minutes. Conn also contributed three rebounds and a steal, while Faith Humphrey added eight points, two rebounds, and two assists. Zoe Sedo finished with eight points, three assists, and three steals.

Hanover capitalized on turnovers, scoring 32 points off Sewanee's miscues and adding 11 fast break points, while Sewanee managed only 10 points off turnovers and two in transition.

The Tigers kept pace with Hanover in the first period, which featured two lead changes. However, the Panthers surged in the second, establishing a 10-point lead that they maintained through the remainder of the game. Sedo's three-pointer cut Hanover's lead to 12 just before halftime.

Sewanee showed fight early in the third period as Olivia Falvey scored four consecutive points, but Hanover responded with a decisive 27-6 run that widened the gap and effectively put the game out of reach.

In the fourth, Keating-Rendon drained three three-pointers, and Conn added six more points, but the Tigers couldn't overcome Hanover's lead.

Sewanee faces Macalester on Sunday at Noon in St. Louis, Mo.
