SEWANEE, Tenn. –
Mollie White led Sewanee with 13 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, but the Tigers fell in four sets to Oglethorpe in their final home volleyball game of the season on Saturday afternoon.
White also contributed three block assists and three digs.
Savannah Gann came close to a double-double with 12 kills, nine digs, an ace, and a block assist, while
Suna Merkler added 11 kills, seven digs, a block, and an ace.
Anna Ellison chipped in with four block assists and three kills.
On defense,
Sophia Caruso posted 24 digs, seven assists, and an ace, while
Emma Meyer recorded 22 assists, six digs, and an ace.
Sewanee took a 23-19 lead in the first set, but five errors allowed Oglethorpe to rally and take the set 25-23. The Petrels carried their momentum into the second set, finishing on an 8-1 run with four kills and four Tiger errors to claim it 25-15.
The Tigers battled back in the third set, keeping pace with the Petrels. After tying the set at 23-23 with a kill by Gann, Oglethorpe responded with a kill to reach match point. However, Sewanee held firm with three straight kills—one by Gann and two by Merkler—to force a fourth set.
Sewanee started the fourth set strong, leading 10-5, but a series of errors allowed Oglethorpe to close out the match with a 25-17 set win. The Tigers' final eight points came from kills, as Oglethorpe limited their errors and notched five aces in the set.
Sewanee will travel to Maryville for a match on Tuesday before facing Covenant on Saturday, Nov. 9, in another Collegiate Conference of the South (CSC) matchup.
