SEWANEE, Tenn. –
Olivia Falvey tallied 24 points while
Hannah Cleveland added 13 as the Tigers defeated Covenant on the road on Wednesday night.
The Tigers recorded 32 points in the fourth period to pull ahead and secure the win. Sewanee was 10-of-16 from the field and 2-of-5 from the three.
Falvey added seven rebounds as she was 4-of-7 from behind the arc and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Cydney Wright and
Faith Humphrey both added 11 while Wright collected eight boards and Humphrey posted five. Cleveland added six rebounds to her night and
Zoe Sedo recorded eight points and three rebounds.
Sewanee started with four back-to-back turnovers and could not find the basket to start the game as Covenant got out to a 6-0 lead. Olivia Favley found the first two baskets for Sewanee's first points of the game.
Cydney Wright collected the rebound and the basket as the Tigers held Covenant to just three more points for a 6-9 game at the first media timeout.
However, the Scots regrouped from the media timeout with an eight-point unanswered run, but a layup from
Zoe Sedo ended their run. The Tigers ended the first period with a 13-17 game.
Sewanee got in foul trouble early in the first, as Covenant was in the bonus and was four-of-seven from the free throw line.
Falvey tied the game at 17 with 7:45 left in the half and Covenant responded with a layup of their own to gain the led back, but Falvey hit a three to put the Tigers up for their first lead of the game.
The Tigers cleaned up their game in the second period, as Covenant opened with three fouls to Sewanee's none. Sewanee maintained their lead in the second, but Covenant continuously brought the game within one, as the Tigers ended the half 26-25.
In the first half, both teams struggled offensively, as Sewanee was just 2-of-9 from behind the arc while Covenant was 1-of-8. From the field, the Tigers edged out the Scots shooting 34.5% to 29%.
Both teams went back and forth in the third period as there were nine score changes.
Lilly Phillips collected the first points for Sewanee sinking a three in the third. Covenant held even as both teams traded off points, but the Scots took the lead with 19 seconds left in the third, 42-40.
Shay Conn opened the fourth quarter with two to tie the score at 43 a piece, but the Tigers outscored the Scots 32-22 to secure their first win of the season on the road. With 3:15 left in the game, Sewanee recorded a 15-4 run to end the period and secure the win.
