Tigers defeat Concordia Wisconsin at home, 2-0

SEWANEE, Tenn.Alex Schoener scored the go-ahead goal just a minute and a half into the game, leading Sewanee to a 2-0 victory over Concordia Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon at Puett Field in field hockey action.

Sewanee was awarded a penalty corner early in the game, and Schoener took full advantage. After inserting the ball to Cate Crane at the top of the circle, Crane fed it back to Schoener, who found the back of the net to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

In the fourth period, Sewanee capitalized on their final penalty corner of the game with under five minutes remaining. Natalia BeVier inserted the corner, finding Shepard Ramsey at the top of the circle, who passed it back to BeVier for a tip past the keeper, making it a 2-0 game.

The Tigers controlled much of the first period, recording seven shots and keeping Concordia pinned in their own half. Concordia responded in the second period, outshooting Sewanee 4-1 and earning two penalty corners, but goalkeeper Claire Damare made two key saves to preserve the Tigers' lead.

In the second half, Sewanee dominated possession, outshooting the Falcons 8-1 and earning eight penalty corners to further solidify their control of the match.

Sewanee outshot Concordia Wisconsin 16-5 overall, with nine shots on goal, and earned 13 penalty corners compared to just four for the Falcons.

The Tigers will travel to Wisconsin next week for rematches against Marian and Concordia, as they open conference play.
