Caroline Bridges netted two goals as Sewanee secured its first Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CFHC) win of the season, defeating Marian 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in Fond du Lac, Wis.
Marian jumped out to an early lead, scoring once in the first period and again in the second. However, Sewanee responded in the third period with two goals from Bridges to tie the game.
Bridges' first goal came off a penalty corner. After Alex Schoener inserted the ball to the top of the circle, Sewanee fired several shots before finding Bridges to the right of the goal, where she lofted the ball over the goalkeeper to notch her first collegiate goal.
With just over a minute remaining in the third period, Ramsey nearly tied the game but hit the post. Sewanee was awarded a penalty corner but couldn't capitalize. However, with 8.4 seconds left in the period, another corner was awarded, and Bridges found a loose ball in front of the goal, scoring the equalizer with just one second remaining.
In overtime, with 4:28 left on the clock, Ramsey found space in Marian's circle and fired a shot toward the left corner. Marian's goalkeeper, Emilee Clarey, made the initial save, but Ramsey pounced on the rebound and slotted the ball past the keeper to secure the game-winning goal — and her first collegiate goal.
Both teams registered four shots in the first half, with Marian capitalizing on its chances to take the lead. Sewanee, however, dominated the second half, recording 10 shots in the third period, five in the fourth, and four in overtime while holding Marian to zero shots after the break. The Tigers finished the game with 23 shots (12 on goal), compared to Marian's four shots, all on target.
Sewanee was awarded 14 penalty corners, while Marian managed just two.
This win marks Sewanee's first conference victory since 2021, when they defeated Transylvania 2-1 in the first round of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament.
Sewanee continues CFHC play on Sunday, traveling to face Concordia Wisconsin at noon CT in Mequon, Wis.
