Volleyball falls at home in four to Millsaps

SEWANEE, Tenn. – After four consecutive road weekends and the start of conference play, Sewanee volleyball returned to Juhan Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon, falling to Millsaps in four sets.

Sophomore libero Sophia Caruso led the Tigers with a career-high 30 digs, adding three service aces and four assists. Junior setter Emma Meyer recorded her second consecutive double-double, tallying 28 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Savannah Gann posted a team-high 12 kills, while freshman outside hitter Suna Merkler contributed 11 kills, nine digs, and a service ace. Sophomore middle blocker Audrey Seaman added two solo blocks and two block assists, and outside hitter Maria Kennedy chipped in four block assists, four kills, and nine digs.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle early on, but with the score tied at 7-7, a 4-0 run from Millsaps—sparked by four Sewanee errors—gave the Majors an 11-7 lead. They maintained control from that point, taking the set 25-19.

Sewanee came out strong in the second set, jumping to a 10-2 lead behind four service aces. The Tigers were hitting .636 with seven kills as they extended their lead to 14-4. Despite being up 20-7, the Majors mounted a comeback, going on a 15-4 run to close the gap to 24-21. After Millsaps got within one, Savannah Gann secured the set for Sewanee with a key kill, finishing it 25-23.

In the third set, both teams traded points early, but errors plagued the Tigers, who hit just .031 with only six kills. Millsaps, on the other hand, recorded 16 kills, pulling away at 3-3 and never looking back, taking the set 25-17.

The fourth set followed a similar pattern. Sewanee stayed close early, trailing by just one at 7-6, but Millsaps dominated the rest of the way, holding the Tigers to just six more points to secure the match with a 25-11 victory.
