Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball drops tight three sets to Centre

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Anna Ellison and Savannah Gann both recorded career-high blocks for the Tigers as Ellison posted seven and Gann recorded five, but Sewanee fell in three tight sets (25-20, 26-24, 25-23) to Centre in volleyball action on Monday night in Juhan Gymnasium.

Mollie White led Sewanee with nine kills, while Suna Merkler contributed eight kills and eight digs. Emma Meyer facilitated the offense with 26 assists, and three Tigers reached double digits in digs—Sophia Caruso posted a game-high 15, followed by 13 from Gann and 10 from Maria Kennedy.

Sewanee called a timeout trailing 11-6 in the first set but responded with a 5-0 run to tie the score at 11, fueled by four Centre errors and a kill from White. However, Centre regained momentum with a 14-9 run to claim the set, led by Delia Long's four kills.

The second set saw an early back-and-forth, with Sewanee tallying four kills in their first five points. Trailing 8-6, the Tigers went on an 11-5 run, thanks to two kills and an ace each from Gann and White. A key block by Ellison pushed Sewanee's lead to 17-13, forcing a Centre timeout. The Tigers reached set point at 24-19, but Centre rallied with three kills, two service aces, and two Sewanee errors to steal the second set, 26-24.

Centre opened the third set with a 5-1 lead, but Sewanee battled back to close within two points. Despite their efforts, the Colonels maintained control, and while the Tigers fought off two match points—thanks to a kill from Ellison and a Centre attacking error—Mack Turner's final kill secured the set and match for the Colonels.

Sewanee returns to conference play at home, hosting Hendrix on Friday at 5 p.m. CT and Rhodes on Saturday at Noon in Juhan Gymnasium.
