Ramsey sends Sewanee to CFHC Championships with 1-0 win over Mary Washington

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Shepard Ramsey scored the game-winning goal with just over four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, as Sewanee field hockey defeated Mary Washington, 1-0, in the semifinals of the Collegiate Field Hockey Conference Championships on Friday afternoon at Tomasini Stadium.

The Tigers (13-5) and Eagles (12-6) battled through three scoreless quarters before Sewanee broke through in the final period.

After earning a penalty corner with 4:08 remaining, Natalie BeVier delivered the assist to Ramsey, who found the back of the cage at the 55:54 mark to give Sewanee the 1-0 advantage.

Sewanee's defense held Mary Washington scoreless throughout the contest, while goalkeeper Ryleigh Cabral recorded eight saves to preserve the shutout.

The Eagles finished with a 9-2 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in penalty corners, but the Tigers capitalized on their opportunity late in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Sewanee will advance to the CFHC Championship game, facing No. 1 seed Rhodes on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
