SEWANEE, Tenn. – Stokes McConnell had an assist to Will Pucek in the first half and a goal in the 53rd minute, pushing Sewanee to a 2-0 victory over Covenant in men's soccer action here Wednesday night at Puett Field.

Freshman, McConnell and junior transfer, Pucek both picked up their first goals of their career for Sewanee. Pueck's goal came off a turnover caused by McConnell 21 minutes into the first half. McConnell got his first goal from an assist by Tyler Cozzie, in the 53rd minute after creating an opening in front of the net and firing off his shot just under the crossbar to put the Tigers up 2-0.

The Tigers (2-1-3) were outshot by Covenant (3-3-3) 14-12, but Nathan Vanhoeve in goal for Sewanee for his first career start was on fire with 9 saves on the night. Vanhoeve made several diving saves to tip the ball over the crossbar and out of the net.

Sewanee travels to start conference play this weekend against Berry on Saturday at Noon EST and then heads to Emory on Sunday to play at 1 p.m. EST. The Tigers return to the mountain to continue conference play on Sept. 29th against Oglethorpe at 7:30 p.m.
