Cassidy records 50 digs as Tigers split on first day of Hanover Invite

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Tigers went one-in-one on their first day of the Hanover College Invitational as they faced Hanover and Alma. Adele Cassidy led the Tigers with 50 digs in two games and Laurel Burkhardt led Sewanee's offense with 27 kills. 

Against Hanover, Cassidy recorded 32 digs, just one less than her career-high of digs per game. The Tigers battled coming out on top in five sets. Jacqueline Weller had her third double-double of the season with 18 kills and 10 digs as the Tigers pulled out a close win against Hanover in five sets. Laurel Burkhardt and Savannah Gann followed Weller with 16 kills and 9 kills respectively. Emma Meyer had a big game as well 22 assists and 11 digs. The Tigers won both sets in extra points and were able to pull out the fifth 15-11. 

Against Alma, the Tigers again went five sets but fell short in the 5th 10-15. The Tigers had four players who hit above a .300 percentage. Burkhardt had hit .314 percent and recorded 14 kills, Olivia Jones, hit .333 in her sixth game of the season where she recorded over .300 hitting percentage. Gann recorded .314 with 14 kills on the night. Anna Ellison also hit above .300 for the Tigers. On defense, Cassidy recorded 18 digs followed by Sophia Caruso with 17, and Jacqueline Weller with 10. 

The Tigers play again in Hanover, Indiana on Saturday against Anderson and Kenyon to conclude their weekend play. They return to Sewanee on Friday, Sept. 22 to open conference play against Oglethorpe at 6 p.m.
