ATLANTA - The University of the South had seven selections to the Southern Athletic Assocation's (SAA) All-Tennis Team, the league released on Wednesday.
Jordan Theron and
Quinn Wicklund were chosen as First Team members.
Noah Holsclaw and
Gil Weston collected Second Team selections, while
George Thomas Alexander,
Peyton Erck and
Talman Ramsey were Honorable Mentions.
Theron, a junior transfer from Durban, KwaZula-Natal, South Africa, has been a major threat since coming on to campus this fall. Leading the team with 18 wins, he secured a 13-2 singles record in the spring, all coming at the top flight. Additionally, according to the ITA National Rankings, he is the eighth-best player in the nation and the top singles player in the region.
Wicklund, a sophomore from Dunwoody, Ga., picks up his second All-Conference nod and after earning Second Team last season. He secured a 14-2 spring record, including a 5-0 record at the No. 2 flight. Ranked 20th in the Atlantic South region, he enters this weekend's NCAA Championships on a nine-match winning streak.
While they play well in singles, the duo is a strong tandem in doubles, as the duo has secured a 16-2 record this spring. Ranked second in the Atlantic South Region, Theron/Wicklund are 18th in the country.
Holsclaw, a senior from Marietta, Ga., earns his second All-SAA recognition in his career. Recording an 14-3 record in singles this spring, he also posted 13 wins in doubles.
Weston, a sophomore from Milton, Ga., snags his second postseason award in as many seasons. Tied for the second-most wins with 17, he had an impressive 14-3 mark this spring.
Alexander, a freshman from Daniel Island, S.C., recorded a 7-2 record this season and added six wins in doubles.
Erck, a junior from Houston, Texas, picks up his second All-SAA accolade in as many seasons. Recording a 9-4 mark primarily at the No. 2 flight, he totaled 11 wins between the fall and spring and is ranked 18th in the Atlantic South. In doubles, he has tabulated 15 wins this spring and is 17-4 overall.
Ramsey, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., garners his first All-SAA honor in his career. Posting a 12-4 mark in singles this spring, he also aded 14 wins in doubles.
Sewanee will prepare for the Second Round of the NCAA Championships on Friday from St. Louis on the campus of Washington University, as they await the winner of the George Fox (Ore.)/Greenville (Ill.) match, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
